Thwala up for top PSL award

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates Player and Players’ Player of the Season Lucas Thwala could amass further glory after he was listed as one of the three finalists for the Absa Premiership Player of the Season.
The Bafana Bafana defender is still basking in glory following his clean sweep at the Pirates player awards last Wednesday.
Thwala, a product of the Pirates development academy, swept three major awards on offer as he was hailed as the Players’ Player (by his peers), Player of the Season and the golden boot for ending the campaign as the leading scorer with nine goals - a remarkable achievement for a central defender.
Thwala pocked R40 000 for the Golden Boot Award, R45 000 for the Player’s Player and R90 000 for the Player of the Season award.
The Pirates awards were almost a done deal following Thwala’s impressive performance for his team but when it comes to the main Absa Premiership awards, he will find stiff opposition in the form of his own teammate Teko Modise and SuperSport United defender Morgan Gould.
Last week saw the PSL auditorium filled with some of SA’s top journalists and ex-players, who gathered to debate and motivate for nominees in the various categories of the Absa Premiership End of Season Awards.
At the end of the judging, Steward Masela, Absa sponsorship consultant said; “After a thrilling season and a healthy debate between our judges, we have a strong list of nominees and I don’t think any soccer fan will be disappointed as every nominee has played outstanding football this season.”
PSL CEO, Kjetil Siem also voiced his excitement with the PSL awards. “It was really interesting to see how the judges went about doing their work and looking at the nominees, the judges certainly had a tough time choosing the best of the best in the Absa Premiership,” Siem commented.
The PSL Awards will be televised live on SuperSport 4 from 20h00 on Sunday evening.
