Thopala chuffed after frustrating Chiefs

Port Elizabeth - Debutant Diamond Thopola was a happy camper after helping Chippa United secure a goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs in their opening league match on Sunday.

The defender’s outstanding performance earned him the man-of-the-match accolade.

“I’m very delighted, I just want to thank God for the opportunity and I would also like to thank Chippa Mpengesi for giving me the chance to play for his team and coach Roger (Sikhakhane) as well,” Thopola said.

“It was a tough match, especially when we got a red card, it kind of put us on a back foot, but we managed to keep our cool and maintained shape at the back.”

The former Thanda Royal Zulu captain, who signed for Chippa in the off- season, said he was happy with the point they got against the league champions.

“I’m happy with the draw,” said the defender.

“Throughout the pre-season we have been working on our movement, shifting together as a unit, defending together as a unit. I think it worked for us today,” he said.
