Tefu wary of wounded Bucs

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite says AmaKhosi cannot afford to underestimate Orlando Pirates during Saturday’s Soweto derby at the FNB Stadium.

Pirates have had a tough week, losing 2-1 to Maritzburg United and subsequently parting ways with coach Vladimir Vermezovic.

Chiefs meanwhile trounced potential title rivals Bidvest Wits 3-0 to open up an 11 point gap at the top of the standings.

But Mashamaite has cautioned his teammates not to read too much into recent results, knowing that Bucs are certain to be fired up for South Africa’s biggest domestic showpiece.

"The approach is to go there with respect and not to read too much into their situation, we need to be very careful.

"We have to keep reminding each other about not becoming complacent because it’s going to be easy to say we beat Wits and they lost to Maritzburg United.

"They also lost the coach, but we cannot say, 'okay, let’s chill because we’ll give them a whipping' - that’s not going to be the case.

"It’s going to be a different scenario, they’re playing Chiefs and it’s a derby so they know the importance of the history of this match. So we have to simply focus on the game itself," said the Bafana Bafana central defender.
