Team effort vital for Leopards

Thohoyandou - Ahead of their crucial clash against Moroka Swallows, Black Leopards striker Roggert Nyundu believes his absence in the Lidoda Duvha attack will not be missed as they have enough quality players within their striking department.

Lidoda Duvha will face the Dube Birds in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and National First Division (NFD) relegation/promotion playoffs at Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday.

Nyundu has been a revelation for Leopards in their NFD campaign since joining them on loan from Polokwane City in January, scoring 18 goals in all competitions for the Venda-based outfit.

However, the danger man will not feature against Swallows as he will be serving a one-match suspension.

The 28-year-old goal poacher told Sport24 in an exclusive interview that Leopards are where they are this season due to a team effort and not because of individual brilliance.

“I want to first thank the supporters who gave us a good morale throughout the last match,” said Nyundu.

“Without them I don’t think we’ll be where we are today and they always give us confidence.

“Coming to the game my brother, I think it will be all about the team effort instead of focusing on one individual.

“I won’t be available for the next game because I got another booking.

“But one thing I know for sure is that our team is ready for the clash and they will do the job without me.

“I believe that we have a strong and capable team to face any team and whoever gets the nod will not disappoint.

“Everyone in the team is capable of doing the job and I don’t think my absence will make any difference.”

Heading into this encounter, Leopards are coming off an impressive 2-0 win over Jomo Cosmos at Thohoyandou Stadium last Sunday.

A win for Leopards will strengthen their lead at the summit of the mini-league to six points.

Kick-off is scheduled for 19:30.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
