Cape Town - Following their tremendous victory over SuperSport United on Sunday, AmaZulu coach Steve Barker has praised his players for their great team effort and fighting spirit which earned them a second win of the 2014/15 ABSA Premiership campaign.

Usuthu hammered Matsatsantsa 5-2 in a thrillingclash at the Lucas Moripe stadium courtesy of Bonginkosi Ntuli, Mark Van Heerden, Bornwell Mwape and a brace from Goodman Dlamini respectively.

Jeremy Brockie and Clayton Daniels were on target for United on the day.

Barker believes that their much desired triumph could well be their first step to a battle of avoiding relegation at the end of the season.

“I’m very pleased with the players’ performance today (Sunday).” said Barker.

“I think they deserved this win because they have been working hard together, they kept believing and trusting each other.

“And I think it was a great team effort because they didn’t give up even though we were a goal down at the beginning of the game.

“We started the game poorly, conceding a soft goal but they kept fighting and going at them.

“It was a great performance by my players and I hope that it will be our first step to the right direction.

“And hopefully we can build up on this win.”

A win for Usuthu cut the deficit to six points from an automatic relagation zone after Platinum Stars lost 2-0 to Bloemfontein Celtic over the weekend.

AmaZulu will be looking to keep the momentum going when they face Mpumalanga Black Aces on Saturday.
