Amakhosi, who finished third last term, have started the season strongly, lifting the Telkom Charity Cup and beating Bloemfontein Celtic and Golden Arrows in the MTN8 quarter-finals and league respectively.
And naturally club captain, Tau, is pleased with the team's progress.
"Our form thus far in the 2010/11 season is a continuation of our last season's work," Tau told Backpagepix.
"Now we have an even better understanding of coach VV's (Vladimir Vermezovic) methods plus we've managed to keep more or less the same team."
Vermezovic joined Chiefs at the start of last campaign and guided them to the Telkom Knockout title.
"It was going to take a bit of time to understand what the coach wanted, now it seems as if we are perfecting his way of doing things," Tau explained.
"But we have plenty of room for improvement. More good things can be expected of us. We want to build this team into a really potent force.
"I strongly believe that we have a team that can compete for the league title. In order to do that we need to maintain good focus which translates into us taking it one game at a time."
Chiefs' next assignment is against Maritzburg United at the revamped Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night (kick-off: 20:30).
