Tactics pay off for Celtic

Johannesburg - Bloemfontein Celtic coach Ernst Middendorp says perfect execution of his tactical plan led to the side's 2-0 Premiership win against University of Pretoria at the Free State Stadium on Sunday.

"It was a bit of tactical work bringing in Keegan Buchanan," the German coach said.

"He played a very good game. He is strong defensively and also can really head the ball. Stuff like this is more important when you analyse how the game panned out."

Siwelele scored two goals in the first half and managed to hold on to their lead until full time.

Although his team did not play particularly attractive soccer, Middendorp said they created enough chances to get the ball into the back of the net more than twice.

"In the second half we absorbed the pressure and tried to go in search of the third goal which was not beautiful soccer.

"At the moment its been all about trying to separate ourselves from the bottom."

The victory took Siwelele to ninth spot on the log with 22 points from 16 matches.

Celtic's next game on Wednesday will be a tricky one against Platinum Stars, who stole maximum points against Free State Stars on the stroke of full time on Sunday.
