Swallows want Prins out

Cape Town - Moroka Swallows director Godfrey Gxowa wants Leon Prins to step down as CEO before things go from bad to worse.

Read: Swallows relegated from PSL

Swallows suffered relegation for the first time in the PSL era after going down 1-0 to Black Leopards at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Dube Birds entered this weekend's encounter bottom of the promotion-relegation playoff standings, but only one point adrift of joint leaders Leopards and Jomo Cosmos, and with a game in hand over both.

That meant a positive result against Lidoda Duvha would keep the Soweto giants in the running to retain their Premiership survival heading into the final playoff fixture, against Cosmos on Wednesday.

However, Roggert Nyundu's 31st-minute strike this weekend handed Leopards the three priceless points, meaning they sit an unassailable four points clear of Craig Rosslee's men, meaning only Cosmos can catch them when they face the Birds in three days' time.

According to KickOff, Gxowa believes that the last fifteen years has been leading to the club being relegated.

“Now we are going straight to the Motsepe League because NFD is no pap en vleis … things are tough there,” said Gxowa who has been with club since 1951.

“Prins has lost the plot and he needs to hand the team back to the people who were running the club.

“We have good players from Soweto who are coached by Ace Mnini, but they are ignored by the current coaching stuff. Things must change but that will not with the current people running the club."
