Johannesburg - A Moroka Swallows player has been arrested for speeding on the R21 near the Olifantsfontein offramp on Saturday, Gauteng traffic police's high speed unit said.

"(He was caught) travelling at 171km/h with his Silver Jeep SRT whilst on his way to the airport," spokesperson Bushapi Nxumalo said.

The 30-year-old was arrested and charged with reckless and negligent driving with an alternative charge of exceeding the speed limit.

He will appear in the Tembisa Magistrate's Court soon.

Swallows, who have the weekend off in the Absa Premiership, lie third in the standings with 12 points after seven matches.
