Johannesburg - Just when it looked like Maritzburg United might go home with three points, Siyabonga Nomvete netted an 89th minute equaliser for Moroka Swallows in an Absa Premiership match played in Soweto.
Diyo Sibisi had scored a goal in each half as Ian Palmer’s men looked set to take three points away from the Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium.
But Nomvete had different ideas, netting a late goal thanks to substitute Auguston Leonard’s supply. But the 77th minute red card to Felix Obada for violent conduct did not help the visitors.
Maritzburg got off to a good start when Sibisi slotted in a second minute goal from close range following good work by Obada.
For all their hard work Maritzburg’s next best chance would only come from substitute Matle whose 36th minute drive flew over Etafia’s crossbar.
Just after the interval Igesund made a tactical change and brought on Mpho Maleka for Oscar Machapa. But Palmer made a change as well, bringing on a fresh defender in on David Booysen for Byron Hendricks.
In the 64th minute Sibisi headed in his second goal of the night, taking full advantage of Thabang Matuka’s left wing cross and it seemed as if the visitors had done enough.
But in the 70th minute Tsutsulupa pulled a goal back for Swallows, finishing well from inside the big box following Nomvete’s supply.
Then Nomvete became even more of a hero, slotting home the equaliser with just a minute to go.
