SuperSport sneak past Santos

Atteridgeville - A second half strike from Ashley Hartog has given SuperSport United victory over a stubborn Santos outfit at the Lucas Moripe Stadium here on Tuesday night.

SuperSport can thank their goalkeeper Tsepo Motsoeneng for keeping the score down to 1-0 after a scintillating performance.

After a strong first half showing, Motsoeneng could not keep out Hartog in the 57th minute when he pounced on an assist by the lively Atusaye Nyondo, and stuck his close range shot into the top corner.

SuperSport United did all the attacking in the first half with Anthony Laffor and Nyondo the dangermen. Nyondo put a header wide while Motsoeneng tipped Laffor’s free kick around the post.

The Santos shot stopper then had to tip a Nyondo shot over his crossbar as SuperSport piled on the pressure.

Once the goal came, SuperSport looked more at ease on the ball and went close a few more times, but then the game got a little physical with some bruising tackles flying in from both sides as Santos showed their frustration.

Eleazar Rodgers came close with a last minute headed attempt, but it went straight into the arms of Ronwen Williams.

Overall the home side deserved their win as Santos offered little going forward and struggled to find the creative spark needed to win a match.

SuperSport United (0) 1 (Hartog 57’)
Santos 0

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
