Pretoria - SuperSport United maintained their advantage at the top of the table with a 3-0 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces at Loftus Stadium on Saturday night.
Despite having a 17-game unbeaten run brought to an end by Golden Arrows during midweek, Gavin Hunt made just one alteration to the team, replacing the injured Thandani Ntshumayelo with Hlompo Kekana.
Aces had three changes from their defeat to Santos, but looked to go at their opponents and played the more enterprising football in the early exchanges, regardless of the heavy rain and slippery pitch.
United held firm at the back though, with some sound defensive blocks and good goalkeeping from Denis Onyango, before going ahead somewhat against the run of play in the 39th minute.
After ineffectively mounting a handful of typical long-ball attacks, the hosts saw a Daine Klate free-kick punched straight back into the danger zone by Oscar Ramogadi, before Anthony Laffor found back of the net with the help of slight deflection.
Savvas Agiomamidis’s men failed to find a way back into the game after the break and the champions found the comfort of a second goal when Klate pounced on some poor control from AmaZayoni to send Salmon through in the 64th minute.
SuperSport completed the rout, ahead of the all important Pretoria derby against Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday, with a superbly struck left-footed strike from Jabulani Maluleke in the 85th minute.
