SuperSport and Wits draw

Johannesburg - Both SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits missed many good goal scoring chances in a match that ended 0-0 the Absa Premiership at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane.

Both goalkeepers also had fine games, but overall the coaches of both sides will be worried about the way their players squandered chances. For Bidvest Wits, not scoring and winning today probably puts them out of the League title race.

Nevertheless it was an end to end game with lots of openings and chances on both ends of the field.

The first chance came as early as the 7th minute when Bidvest Wits’ Calvin Kadi got onto the end of a corner kick at the far post but could not keep his header down.

Five minutes later and the visitors were again asking questions of the SuperSport defence, but this time Papy Faty could not control his volley, which flew over the crossbar.

In the 16th minute Wits’ in-form striker Sthembiso Ngcobo found space inside the danger area and tried to curl a shot into the far post but got his direct ion wrong.

Ther home side got their first chance after 20 minutes when Dino Ndlovu got free at the far post, but his header did not have enough power to beat Moeneeb Josephs.

Five minutes later and Jabulani Shongwe came close with a fantastic driven shot, but Ronwen Williams was able to tip the ball over the bar,

Then it was the turn of Josephs to keep his side in the game when he brilliantly dived to his right to save from Grobler.

Shongwe should have done better in the 36th minute when he ran into the area to volley a shot on goal, but he could not keep the ball down.

Almost immediately after half time, Bidvest Wits should have taken the lead when Kadi curled his shot over the bar.

There was yet another missed attempt in the 59th minute when Ngcobo fired in a shot across goal, but the ball hit the upright and Shongwe wasted the rebounded attempt.

Substitute Jabu Mahlangu had a great chance to score in the 84th minute but he could not connect cleanly with the ball after finding space on a breakaway.

Near the end of the game, in the 87th minute, Thabo September was sent off for a late tackle on Erwin Isaacs.
