SuperSport CEO confirms clearout

Cape Town - SuperSport United CEO, Stan Matthews, revealed that nine players are headed for the exit door at the Premiership outfit.

Matthews also confirmed that the duo of Ronwen Williams and Clayton Daniels had been offered one-year contract extensions.

It's already expected that; Bennett Chenene, Thabiso Nkoana, Prince Nxumalo, Thamsanqa Teyise, George Chigova and Michael Morton are on their way out.

"There's been interest for Thabiso. He has expressed his desire to move and we are going to grant him that," Matthews told The Sowetan.

"We obviously have to agree terms, but I can say for sure he will leave during this transfer window. We are also not going to keep players like Nxumalo, Chenene and Chigova."

According to Matthews, SuperSport also tried, without luck, to sign Robert Ng'ambi from Platinum Stars and Wits defender Siyabonga Nhlapo, while being beaten to the chase by Kaizer Chiefs to sign Daniel Cardoso from Free State Stars.

Matthews explained that the club could not meet Daine Klate's salary demands and that's why they moved swiftly to replace the winger with Australian Isaka Cernak.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
