Sundowns to keep busy

Cape Town - As domestic football takes a short break due to the FIFA international break, Mamelodi Sundowns will be taking part in the annual Uthungulu Mayoral Cup.

The tournament is set to take place Saturday, September 5 in Richards Bay.

According to Mamelodi Sundowns website, the Chloorkop side will play the first semi-final of the four-team tournament against NFD side Thanda Royal Zulu at 9:00.

AmaZulu will play the second semi-final match against ABC Motsepe campaigners, Milford FC at 11:30.

The Brazilians are the only team outside of KwaZulu-Natal that will be taking part in the tournament.

The event organizer, Nhlakanipho Mkhize says the the aim of the competition is to honour the current mayor, Honourable Cllr TBW Mchunu and her future successors while also affording the youth and the community as a whole participation in sport and abstinence from crime.

A day before the competition, the teams will assist in a CSI initiative which will see life-skills workshops and coaching clinics being rolled out at Empangeni’s Ngwelezane township.

The final of the tournament will be played at 15:00.
