Sundowns snatch late win

Pretoria - Substitute Elias Pelembe was the hero of the night for Mamelodi Sundowns as he gave them the full three points against Bloemfontein Celtic in their PSL clash at Loftus Versfeld.

The Mozambican’s goal came in the dying seconds of injury time. This, after Erick Mathoho scored the opener and Nyasha Mushekwi equalised.

The Loftus pitch was greasy and every now and then the rain came down hard, which meant players struggled to keep their footing.

But overall the match was exciting and could have gone either way in the end.

In the 26th minute, Siwelele opened the scoring through Mathoho who got his head to the end of an in-swinging Clifford Mulenga free kick and placed his header into the ground and towards the far post.

This forced Sundowns into wake up mode and Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb was called into action - he did brilliantly to keep out Katlego Mphela’s low shot across goal.

In the second half it was Sundowns keeper Wayne Sandilands’ chance to show his worth. He made two excellent saves to keep out Mshengu and then Bacela who pounced on the rebound.

Then Sundowns equalised through Nyasha Mushekwi’s powerful volley that gave Tignyemb no chance.

Then, in the 63rd minute, Mushekwi missed a really good chance to give his team the lead, blasting over from a brilliant position.

Mulenga hit the post in the final ten minutes, but it was substitute Pelembe who kept his cool and put away a volley at the far post deep into optional time.
