'Downs to end Stars hoodoo

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns will look to recover from a heavy defeat last time out in the Absa Premiership when they host Platinum Stars at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Sundowns suffered just their second home defeat of the season when they were crushed 5-0 by Bloemfontein Celtic last week.

The Tshwane side has claimed 24 points from 12 home matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Kaizer Chiefs (home), SuperSport United (away) and University of Pretoria (home).

The Brazilians are placed second on the Absa Premiership log with 47 points from 25 matches.

Stars extended their unbeaten run in the league to three matches with a goalless draw at home to SuperSport United last week.

The Rustenburg side has claimed 11 points from 12 away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are AmaZulu (away), Polokwane City (home) and Bidvest Wits (away).

Dikwena are placed 12th on the Absa Premiership log with 29 points from 25 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Sundowns and Stars have met in 22 league matches since 2003/04.

The Brazilians have eight wins compared to six for Dikwena, while eight matches have been drawn.

Sundowns have won just three of their 11 home matches against Stars, suffering four defeats in the process.

Last season the Brazilians took four points off Dikwena, drawing 1-1 in Tshwane before claiming a 3-1 win in Rustenburg.

Kick-off is at 19:30 on Wednesday, April 22.
