Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise was delighted to see his side return to domestic action in such dominant form following Tuesday's 4-1 win over Moroka Swallows.
The Premiership resumed this week following the recent two-month break, and the Brazilians hit the ground running as a brace from Cuthbert Malajila, a goal from Alje Schut and Modise's long-range free-kick secured all three points against the Dube Birds.
And, with the result having cut Kaizer Chiefs' lead at the top of the standings down to 13 points, Modise is hoping they can repeat their achievement from last term when they overcame a 12-point deficit to eventually surpass Amakhosi to the top-flight crown.
Modise told his official website: "Like I said the challenge of defending our title has begun. It is only the first match but I can tell you that the players are hungry and are looking for success.
"The game against Swallows has boosted the confidence in the team and everyone is excited to be back with a bang.
“I think we played according to the coach's instructions and made the correct decisions as players on the field.
"We killed the game in the first half and went about it professionally all the way until the final whistle.
“It felt super great to score a goal and help the team progress.
“It indeed was a good goal, one I can watch over and over again. This has given me confidence to do more in front of goals."
