Sundowns, Wits go into battle

Cape Town - Absa Premiership title hopefuls Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns will battle for three vital points at the Bidvest Stadium.

Wits have put together a seven-game unbeaten run and picked up a second successive league win in 2015 when they defeated Moroka Swallows 2-0 away midway through last month.

The Johannesburg side has claimed 19 points from nine home matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Bloemfontein Celtic (home), AmaZulu and Polokwane City (both away).

The Clever Boys are placed third on the Premiership log with 37 points from 20 matches.

Sundowns claimed a fourth successive league win extended their unbeaten run to 15 matches with a 1-0 victory at AmaZulu in their last outing.

The Tshwane club has claimed 19 points from 10 away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Free State Stars (away), Polokwane City and Chippa United (both home).

The Brazilians are placed second on the log with 37 points from 19 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Wits and Sundowns have met in 58 league matches since 1985.

The Brazilians have 31 wins compared to 15 for the Clever Boys, while 12 matches have been drawn.

Wits have won 11 of their 29 home matches against Sundowns, suffering 14 defeats in the process.

When the teams met earlier this season they played to a goalless draw in Tshwane.

Kick-off at 19:30 on Tuesday, March 3.
