Johannesburg - Hristo Stoichkov's future at Mamelodi Sundowns is in doubt after the club revealed they were holding talks with the coach.
From the outside looking in, Stoichkov has enjoyed a relatively successful campaign in his first season in charge of the club, taking the Brazilians from ninth to second in twelve months, one-point behind champions SuperSport United.
However, Downs chairperson and owner Patrice Motsepe has very high standards and expectations, and there are fears from some quarters that the Bulgarian mentor may get the chop ahead of next season.
Those fears seem warranted after a statement was released on the club's official website stating that talks have been scheduled between the board and Stoichkov.
It read: "The Board of Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club is in discussions with the Coach, the Technical Committee and players with respect to the future of the Coach." [sic]
It would not be the wisest move on the part of the club to get rid of Stoichkov after just one season as he has clearly stabilised the club after a torrid three years since they last won the title.
The Brazilians have won the Premier Soccer League title on five occasions and will be keen to add a sixth to their trophy cabinet in the next campaign after just missing out to city rivals Matsatsantsa at the start of the month.
