Stars bag fourth win

Rustenburg - Striker Themba Ntumba struck in the 12th minute to give Platinum Stars their fourth win of the Premier Soccer League season with a 1-0 victory over Wits at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, in Rustenburg, on Wednesday.

Ntumba latched on to a cross from Solomon Mathe and netted a long range effort to give the hosts an early lead.

Stars dominated throughout, and looked set to stretch the gap in the closing stages of the first half, with Wits goalkeeper Darren Keet forced into action three times in the last 10 minutes.

The home side continued to push forward after the break, and Keet was kept on his toes, but stood firm between the posts.

The best chance for Stars in the second half came in the 78th minute, when Keet kept out a shot from Henrico Botes and Thuso Phala sent his header wide off the rebound.

Wits were down to 10 men for the last 15 minutes after Masashi Mzwanele was shown a second yellow card.

The visitors, sliding down the table, stretched their poor run of form to eight matches without a win.
