Cape Town - Dino Ndlovu scored a late equaliser as Free State Stars were denied a sixth straight win after being held to a 2-2 draw by Mpumalanga Black Aces at Goble park on Saturday.

Moeketsi Sekola had given the hosts the lead after 51 minutes - the goal also ensuring he walked away with the league's golden boot - before Roger da Costa levelled 12 minute later.

But Hendrik Somaeb again put Stars in front after 72 minutes, with Ndlovu then denying Kinnah Phiri's men all the points.

The result meant the Free Staters ended ninth in the Premiership table, with AmaZayoni finishing 10th.

Both sides exchanged early chances with Bongolethu Jayiya firing straight at Johnny Mathole for the visitors and Thabo Moloi warming the gloves of Jackson Mabokgwane.

The enterprising Moloi was again in the mix after 16 minutes when he headed wide from the six-yard box.

Midway through the half Hendrik Somaeb failed to find the target from range as Stars pressed for the opener.

Moloi had a third chance to get onto the scoresheet just after the half horr, but fired wide to the left.

And before the break Nigerian Onyekachi Okonkwo almost snatched the lead against the run of play - captain Paulos Masehe making a late block to rescue his side and keep it scoreless at the break.

Sekola and Okonkwo then exchanged strikes, before Somaeb put his side in front and Ndlovu secured the late point.
