Cape Town - Spanish La Liga outfit Espanyol are reportedly keen on luring Bafana Bafana midfielder May Mahlangu from IFK Goteborg.
According to Soccer Laduma, Goteborg's sporting director Mats Gren is aware of the rumours linking Mahlangu with an exit from the club.
Reports in Sweden indicate that La Liga side Espanyol are among those in Spain that are interested in acquiring Mahlangu’s services.
“I have heard many rumours. I have also heard about some Spanish clubs but I don’t know if they are true,” Gren told reporters.
The 25-year-old's contract expires in December but Goteberg are eager to keep the talented midfielder at the club and are believed to have offered the player a two year extension.
“We hope for an extension and May has expressed some interest and it feels positive,” Gren added.
Reports suggest that the midfielder’s agent has already met with Gren to discuss the player's future but reports in Sweden seem to indicate that Mahlangu might opt to leave the club.
Mahlangu will be able to leave IFK Goteborg on a free transfer in December should the South African midfielder not reach an agreement with the Swedish club before then.
