'Shabba price must be right'

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs have warned that Siphiwe Tshabalala will only be sold if Nottingham Forest meet their demands.

The South African winger is scheduled to fly to England on Monday after Amakhosi received a written request from the English Championship outfit offering the player a week-long trial.

However, Chiefs' football manager, Bobby Motaung, says the club's power brokers might decide against offloading their star asset.

"Chiefs is not in the business of selling players," Motaung told Football365.co.za.

"We want to win championships, we want to win trophies and that's why we pay our players well.

"It will depend on what the club [Forest] is offering us. What is important to us is the player's career and currently we haven't put a price tag on the player. We are just waiting for an offer to come through but if anything I want to keep Tshabalala here, because we want to win the league.

"I wouldn't determine the price for him right now. I have incurred costs developing the player for years so it will depend on the whole package," he added.

Tshabalala shot to world prominence when he scored the first goal of the 2010 World Cup on home soil in June last year, yet despite his pedigree, Motaung is wary of sending players overseas - regardless of their profile.

He also revealed that Forest have yet to make a firm offer for Tshabalala, but he finds it difficult to understand why the club want to further evaluate the 26-year-old midfielder

He said: "We have always tried to protect players from going overseas because we know what happens when you are there. Sometimes he can come back demoralized because he failed or didn't get a deal.

"Those are the type of things we are trying to protect the players from but we agreed with the coach and the chairman to let him go, because there has been too much written of Tshabalala going overseas.

"I'm surprised that they still want to look at the player, because the player is a national team player. But what's key for us is to have a happy player.

He added: "So far there is no offer. They just invited him and I don't know what they want to see because he's been playing for the national team and they have seen him."
