Serero fancies the Urban Warriors for the Premier League despite praise for their rival top-four contenders.
"We don't mind that people are not talking about us. I think we stand just as good a chance as any of the teams at the top to win the league," he told Sowetan
After Ajax's 2-1 win over Cape rivals Vasco da Gama, where the 20-year-old netted twice, the Urban Warriors are now third on the league with 43 points. Serero attributes their good form to coach Foppe de Haan.
"He is a very good coach who likes his players to enjoy themselves on the pitch. He likes attacking football and wants us to play a passing game," said Serero.
He said De Haan's influence would be sorely missed if he were to leave.
"I would be heartbroken if he left. It would be a big blow to us if he leaves."
Serero himself ruled out leaving the club for a local rival, but is open to plying his trade overseas.
He added: "I'm happy at Ajax and I wouldn't want to leave it for any local side. My intention is to play well so that I can go play in Europe, not locally."
The Soweto-born midfielder, who recently featured for Bafana Bafana in a friendly against Kenya, has two more years left on his current contract.
