The forward bagged 14 goals in the Premiership this term, one more than Bloemfontein Celtic's Lerato Lamola, to help Ea Lla Koto avoid relegation while also clinching the Golden Boot.

Speaking after Sunday's end of season gala at the Sandton Convention Centre, Sekola told KickOff: "It's a good feeling [to win the award]. I never saw it coming before.

"We went through lot as a team. We lost one of our teammates [Richard Henyekane passed away on April 7] and we have been battling with relegation.

The striker added: "I want to dedicate this award to my teammates. They have always been there for me, especially the senior players, the likes of Paulus Masehe, Themba Tshabalala who kept pushing me to work hard."
