Johannesburg - Former SAFA chief executive officer Lesley Sedibe is officially in the running for the position of PSL CEO. The administrator, who recently vacated his post with SAFA, has joined the list of 16 candidates vying for the PSL position.
Sedibe parted ways with the association with a reported windfall of R2 million and has now decided to put his name up for the PSL’s top position.
A Soccer-Laduma source revealed Sedibe is one of the firm favourites for the position. Current PSL CEO Kjetil Siem is set to exit the position at the end of the season when his contract with the league expires.
The Siya crew has it on good authority that the South African Football Association is in the final stages of appointing a suitable candidate for the vacant chief executive officer post at the association. The post has been vacant since early February after Sedibe and the association parted ways.
From the original list of 18 candidates that were vying for the position SAFA has now cut the list down to only three. The trio that the association will choose their man from include former PSL public relations officer Andrew Dipela, former SAFA referees' head Russell Paul and SAFA eThekwini executive member Nathi Ngcobo.
Of the three, Dipela is favoured to edge his competitors because of the previous roles he held at the league. Besides being the PSL PRO, Dipela also served as the National First Division general manager.
After he resigned controversially in 2008 following allegations of sexual harassment that were levelled against him, Dipela stayed away from the football limelight for some time.
He made his comeback during the 2010 FIFA World Cup when he served as the venue manager for Ellis Park Stadium and did a remarkable job.
