Schut not scared of Birds

Pretoria - Mamelodi Sundowns captain Alje Schut, who has just extended his contract by a further year at the club, believes that past results against Moroka Swallows will have no bearing when the two giants meet in a top of the table PSL clash at Loftus Stadium on Sunday.

According to Bafana Bastyle's official website, Sundowns have excercised the option on Schut's contract to renew it for a further year until the end of the 2014/15 season.

“We go into the match against Swallows with a renewed mindset, knowing that records mean nothing," said Schut.

"A good example is the fact that we had been struggling to beat Bloemfontein Celtic, but we have now beaten them twice already this season in cup and league”

Although the PSL log leaders are confident of beating their rivals from Soweto, Schut has identified of a few threats the Dube Birds possess his side's defence should be wary of.

“Swallows are very dangerous on a counter attack and have the right players for that style of play.

"Nomvethe is in my view one the best strikers in PSL, even at his age. If we are to win that match we have to restrict his and Lerato’s (Chabangu) movement on the day”

Schut expressed his elation at extending his stay in South Africa, a country the Dutchman says he has fallen in love with.

“Renewing my contract is a very good feeling for me because Mamelodi Sundowns has become like home for me.

"I also love South Africa as a country including the football in the PSL.”
