Sarr gets Tinkler backing

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates head coach, Eric Tinkler, is confident Issa Sarr will be back to his best when the Buccaneers take on CS Sfaxien in the CAF Confederation Cup this weekend.

The Senegalese midfielder was one of several players who put in a disappointing performance in Pirates' shock 3-1 penalty shootout loss to Royal Leopards in the King's Super Cup in Swaziland at the weekend.

Sarr also flattered to deceive in Pirates' 2-1 loss to Zamalek in the Confederation Cup earlier this month, but Tinkler has put his faith in the 28-year and believes he can regain his best form against CS Sfraxien on Saturday.

"Yeah, I think Issa Sarr didn't have his best game, truth be told. But sometimes that happens," Tinkler told KickOff.

"He has been fantastic for us throughout last season and sometimes you get those days. I had those days as a player and it was one of those days for him.

"I kept him out there hoping that it will change for him getting his confidence back. Unfortunately it didn't happen.

"We know his strength, he's got a strong character and he will bounce back for CS Sfaxien," he concluded.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
