Mbesuma signed with Pirates from Premiership rivals Golden Arrows earlier this week, with the veteran striker poised to make his Bucs debut against SuperSport in the MTN8 on Sunday.
The 28-year-old scored an impressive 35 goals to help Kaizer Chiefs win the league title in the 2004/05 PSL season before moving to England to join Portsmouth, where he failed to live up to expectations.
He then returned to South Africa, where he has since played for Mamelodi Sundowns, Moroka Swallows and Arrows, while he was also a member of Zambia's triumphant 2012 African Cup of Nations squad.
Sangweni, who played with Mbesuma at Abafana Bes'thende, has backed the burly forward to make a big impression for the Sea Robbers as they look to challenge for the elusive CAF Champions League title this season.
"Mbesuma needs no introduction to our football - he was part of the Zambian National team that won the African Cup of nations recently, and he is a respected player here in South Africa," the defender told his club's official website.
"I certainly hope his experience in the game will helps us achieve more success this season. Things will be tough for us this season and we have to be well prepared.
"I think he knows where we are as a club and he will have to work hard to get in the team."
