R17m for Bafana star

2010-09-23 07:58

Cape Town - Tottenham Hotspur are set to fork out R17m for Bafana Bafana and SuperSport defender United Bongani Khumalo, according to a report on Timeslive

The Supersport United defender flies to London on Thursday night to spend a week training with Spurs.

Khumalo will join the north London side officially during the January transfer window, but until then he will make regular visits to White Hart Lane when Supersport's fixture calendar allows.

Khumalo has been touted as a future Bafana captain by former coach Carlos Alberto Parreira and will be a major loss to United.

I just knew it that Tottenham will sign him...What a loss Superport United! I think PSL teams should learn from SSU how to make business deals, they were not greedy when signed Bongani from Tucks...now the will be smiling all the way to the bank. I really hope that he will play regularly for Tottenham....so that he can catch the eye of Barcelona/Real madrid/Inter Milan/Chelsea/ etc. Good luck boy, you deserve this chance to play football at the highest level!

  • Mario - 2010-09-23 09:41

R17m...That’s nothing for a big club like that. What is that - 1.5m pounds? That's pocket change for them man. He deserves better. What an insult.

  • Tommy1 - 2010-09-23 09:47

Well done to SUPERSPORT AND THE COACH. One hopes that the other three big clubs in the country can pay attention and learn from this. This clearly shows that supersport understand what is needed in running a Football club and put the intrest of all parties involved with the club first. This is why they have won the league the last three seasons. To improve the level of the bafana squad we need to have more players playing in the top leagues arround the world,it can only be good for South African football. Wish you all the best Bongani, spread your wings and fly.

    future Bafana captain indeed!!

  • Chuma - 2010-09-23 12:15

I'm happy that a player of Bongani's calibre is goignt o represent Mzantsi in the English League soon. I hope the so-called 'superstars' could learn that being humble and playing football for the love has benefits. He is not Big-Headed like some of the so-called 'superstars'. He will go as far as Lucas Radebe coz he is very focused and dedicated to what he does. I'm a Chiefs' fan, but i give credit where its due.

  • Cyril Poonen - 2010-09-23 13:04

Welcome to North London home of Tottenham Hotspur F.C. Prove a point to Mabizela that you are disciplined and you are going to achieve more than him and that the sky is the limit .

  • Peter - 2010-09-23 13:25

The money is peanuts for a classy player like him, but hey, he's got his foot in the door. Arsenal, Man U, Liverpool, etc all have dodgy defences right now, and who knows where Bongani will end up(hopefully Arsenal). go forth and conquer

Great to see a South African getting the nod from arguably one of the best managers in the world. All the best to you, Bongani. Keep your feet firmly on the ground and let your skills and talent do the talking on the field of play and sucess will come naturally. We are prod of you, son of the soil.

  • nsabasi - 2010-09-28 07:24

South Africa is Bongani's adopted country. He is originally a Swazi national. Where are the indigenous boys such as Mabhuti Khenyeza etc? Why are they failing to get lucrative deals? Food for thought!!! I must still congratulate Bongani. Wish you all the best.

  • Irvine - 2010-09-28 11:36
