Orlando Pirates are the only team that has managed to amass six points going into the third round. They lead Group B, followed by Mamelodi Sundowns and Mpumalanga Black Aces – who are both on four points.
Bloemfontein Celtic top Group A with four points, thanks to the 8-0 result they achieved against Moroka Swallows. They are joined by Kaizer Chiefs, Ajax Cape Town and University of Pretoria.
Swallows host Tuks at the Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday, where they will be looking to bounce back from the heavy loss they suffered against Celtic. Tuks will go all out, knowing that a win will send them top of the group.
Kicking off at the same time is the clash between in-form Bloemfontein Celtic and Polokwane City at Siwelele Park in Bloemfontein. City, who conceded a last-minute goal in their 3-2 loss to Ajax, face a huge task of stopping a Celtic side that managed to score eight goals in their last clash.
“The match against Polokwane City is going to be tough. It won’t be an easy one at all. All the teams will want to have a go at us now. It’s important that we focus on our own game plan and do things right,”
“We are playing our first match at home. It is important to start with a win. We are preparing hard for the game. We hope to be ready by the time it arrives,” said Celtic coach Lehlohonolo Seema.
Ajax Cape Town and Kaizer Chiefs will also battle for the top spot at Ikamva in Cape Town. Both sides have managed a win and a draw in their two matches, with Ajax netting four goals while Chiefs managed to score two.
Maritzburg United host SuperSport United in the other match at the Harry Gwala Stadium. Both sides are still searching for their first wins after failing to earn three points in their first two matches. SuperSport lost to Polokwane and drew against Chiefs in their last match, while Maritzburg lost to both Tuks and Chiefs.
Bidvest Wits face the tough task of trying to be the first side to stop Pirates, who are yet to drop a point, when they meet at Bidvest Stadium. The young Students will be aiming for their first three points after drawing both their matches.
AmaZulu and Mamelodi Sundowns meet at the Princess Magogo Stadium, also at noon. AmaZulu lost to Pirates and Stars, while Sundowns edged Stars in their first match before being held by Dikwena in their last encounter.
