Polokwane claim vital win

Johannesburg - A goal in each half from Essau Kanyenda helped relegation-threatened Polokwane City to a 2-1 victory over Mpumalanga Black Aces in their Premiership match at Mbombela Stadium, in Nelspruit, on Sunday.

Coming into the game third from bottom, City aimed to close the six point gap on the 13th-placed Moroka Swallows. With the win, City remain 14th, but move up to 27 points - three behind Swallows.

For Aces who came into the game in sixth position on the log, it was a third loss in four league outings, as their top eight aspirations have come under threat.

City took the lead in the 14th minute when Kanyenda was on hand to find the target past Aces goalkeeper Bafana Nhlapo.

City reached the break in relative comfort with their one goal cushion, but Aces hit back five minutes after the interval.

Mabhuti Khenyeza played the ball in for Abia Nale who obliged with a left-footed strike past Modiri Marumo in the Aces goal to level the scores at 1-1.

The equaliser spurred City back into action as they regained the advantage 12 minutes later.

Kabelo Lichaba sent the ball in for Kanyenda, and the player was able to find the target as City took the lead for a second time in the game.

City were able to hold onto their advantage on the second attempt, and claimed a vital win with two games remaining.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
