Politics blocked AmaZulu-Aces deal

Cape Town - New Mpumalanga Black Aces goalkeeper, Shu-Aib Walters believes that the sale of his new club to AmaZulu was not prevented due to the PSL’s adherence to certain rules and regulations.

Walters takes a more cynical outlook on the unfolding of events, and while he is glad that Aces will remain in the PSL, he says that it was probably politics that stopped the deal going through.

“We still don’t know why this one was declined and why the six others weren’t before – I just think that there is a lot of politics involved,” he told Sport24.

“If certain people wanted it done then it would have been done.

“I think South African football has dealt with things their own way for the past 15 years now, I don’t see why they would now to FIFA rules.

“Obviously FIFA would not allow it but South Africa has done a number of things before that FIFA have not allowed.

“Next year somebody else wants to do it and it might go through, it’s about who has power.”

AmaZulu bought out Dynamos in 2006 to gain PSL status but on Thursday the PSL confirmed that they decided a similar deal would not go through this time.
