Platinum Stars crunch Ajax

Rustenburg - Platinum Stars scored three times in an emphatic 3-0 hammering of Ajax Cape Town in an Absa Premiership match in Rustenburg.

The win takes Stars to second place on the log.

The goals came from Patrick Malokase, Mogakolodi Ngele and Thuso Phala and Stars are now on the same number of points as Orlando Pirates who are top of the table on goal difference.

It took just eight minutes for Dikwena to open the scoring through Patrick Malokase in the scorching heat of Rustenburg.

The goal came from a long ball by goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane who found Malokase’s head, the ball fell to Mogakolodi Ngele and he fired in a shot from range.

But Ajax keeper Sean Roberts could only push Ngele’s shot into open play and Malokase did very well to get to the ball first and place his low shot into the far bottom corner of goal.

Then Ajax had a chance to draw level after fourteen minutes when Keagan Dolly’s left-footed attempt was well saved by Mpontshane.

Dikwena should have gone 2-0 ahead after 28 minutes when Henrico Botes had his volley blocked at close range.

In the 31st minute Bafana Bafana winger Phala whipped in a cross to the far post, but Malokase, leaning back, could not keep the ball down and missed a glorious chance.

But Stars made sure of their second moments before the interval when Phala and Ngele combined brilliantly.

Phala cut inside his opponent and slotted a through ball to Ngele and the Botswana international buried his shot on the turn.

Ajax were so close to a goal in the opening minute of the second half when a ball across goal from Nale just could not find the feet of Khenyeza.

But then Stars got their third goal and took the game away from Ajax. In the 59th minute Phala was put through on goal and he burst away from two defenders, created space and powered his shot across goal to beat  Roberts.

In the last fifteen minutes Ajax kept the ball well and ran hard at Stars, not giving up the fight for a goal.

But Stars were able to keep the visitors at bay and protect their fine 3-0 lead.
