Pitso: No one is indispensable

Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Pitso Mosimane, says it has been difficult to judge some of this season’s signings, most of whom have battled with injuries.

According to the Soccer-Laduma website, the club’s dealings in the transfer market has always been a source of interest among football supporters and the media, with many questioning the habit of signing players that would go on to spend the rest of the season on the bench, or in the stands.

This season has been no different, with the likes of Mukuka Mulenga and Glenn Verbauwhede yet to kick a ball in official games for the Chloorkop-based team.

However, Mosimane reveals he will possibly assess some of his new signings better next season.

“Some people ask whether we believe we bought well at the beginning of the season. It’s difficult to judge whether we bought well or not at this stage because some of the players we have bought have not even kicked a ball for Sundowns because of injuries.

Maybe after this season we will be in a better position to assess whether we bought well or not because you can’t judge players who have not gotten a playing chance.

"Mukuka and Glenn have been recovering from their injuries since joining us, and we are confident that they will add value to the club once they fully recover.

Tiyani Mabunda and Rodney Ramagalela have been very unfortunate to suffer back-to-back injuries immediately upon recovering from the last. Now it would be very unfair to judge such players’ performances.

Other new players like Cuthbert Malajila also have their own injury troubles,” he told the club’s official website.

The former Bafana Bafana mentor, however, added, “Some players have proven to be good buys, for example Wome, even though he’s not playing all the matches but whenever he gets the chance, he scores.

Look at Khama when he’s on the field of play, his contribution is evident. Everybody is special in this team, no one is indispensable."

"We managed to get results without some of our regulars but their influence still remains of high importance.

Take Lebohang Mokoena, who battled patiently with injuries.  Some may have given up, but Cheesboy battled on, showed that he wants to be in there, and worked hard to regain his place – and is now scoring goals,” he concluded.
