Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has warned the club's supporters not to expect too much from new signing Fiston Abdul Razak in the 2015/16 campaign.
The Burundi international, who joined 'Downs from Kenyan Premier League side Sofapaka in June, opened his account against Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8 quarter-finals, but failed to add to his solitary strike a few days later as Mosimane's men played out a goalless draw against Platinum Stars.
Razak's appearances against Stars was questioned by a section of the club's supporters, who were unhappy with the decision to start with Cuthbert Malajila on the substitutes bench.
Mosimane has now explained the thinking behind his decision to bench Malajila in favour of new boy Razak.
"As a coach I had to reward Fiston for scoring against Celtic because, if he gets an important goal and is then on the bench for the next game, I've killed his spirit and confidence," Mosimane told Times Live.
"I need to reward the good things. Fiston is obviously struggling a little bit and needs time. So, let's be patient."
