Pirates to rely on CAF form

Polokwane - Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler says his charges will be all out to start the campaign on a high note as they intend to amend last season errors.

Pirates and SuperSport United will square-off at the Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane on Tuesday, August 11.

Heading into this much anticipated Absa Premiership encounter, the Buccaneers are coming from an impressive 2-0 triumph over CS Sfaxien of Tunisia, in a CAF Confederations Cup Group B clash.

The Pretoria giants, however, are coming from a disappointing 3-1 loss to Bidvest Wits in the MTN8 quarter-final last week.

Tinkler believes that his opponents tonight will be more motivated ahead of their clash, but cited that the Soweto giants will be a perfect match for United’s motivations.

“We need to keep our focus on the league for now,” Tinkler said.

“It will be our first league game of the season and we started the season very poorly in the last campaign.

“We failed to register a single win in our opening three matches, but now we are playing away to SuperSport, a very tough team to beat.

“But that’s just a nature of the game, every team we play against comes highly motivated and we need to match them for those motivations.

“So the boys understand the most importance for us to start well and hopefully collect three points against SuperSport.”

Kick-off is set for 19:30.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
