Pirates sweat on injured duo

Cape Town - Despite their Telkom Knockout victory over Mpumalanga Black Aces, Orlando Pirates suffered a double blow when defender, Siyabonga Sangweni, and midfielder, Thandani Ntshumayelo, left the pitch due to injuries.

Both players returned from injuries that kept them off the field for quite some time and will feel hard done by if they're be ruled out for another lengthy period.

Sangweni picked up an Achilles tendon injury and it is yet to be revealed for how long he will be sidelined.

The 31-year-old Bafana Bafana defender was replaced by Ayanda Ngcaba in central defence and his absence could pave a way back for the veteran captain Lucky Lekgwathi, who missed Bucs’ previous four games.

Meanwhile, midfielder Ntshumayelo suffered a recurring ankle injury.

He was replaced by Mpho Makola.

Both Ntshumayelo and Sangweni are expected to miss the next Pirates match which is a crucial CAF Champions League semi-final second leg clash against Esperance De Tunis in Tunisia next week.

Roger de Sa’s troops need a win or a draw to advance to the dream final of the continental showpiece.

Should they make the final, Pirates will face either Al Ahly of Egypt or Cotton Sport over two legs.
