Soweto - Orlando Pirates climbed to second spot on the PSL table after they beat Ajax Cape Town 2-0 at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.

Sifiso Myeni and Takesure Chinyama scored the two goals, which saw the Buccaneers move three points off early pacesetters Kaizer Chiefs who have 10 points.

Daine Klate could have have opened the floodgates earlier in the game, but his powerful shot was parried by Ajax shot-stopper Sander Westerveld.

Ajax responded by launching their own attack, Khama Billiat breaking loose and unleashing a pile-driver, but Moeneeb Josephs was equal to the task.

In probably the best chance of the night, Tlou Segolela beat the diving Ajax 'keeper, but lacked composure and kicked the ball straight to Nazeer Allie on the goal-line who cleared the danger.

In 30th minute, Andile Jali came close to put the hosts ahead before half-time, but the anchorman’s strike form about 25 yards found Westerveld in no compromising position to keep the scores level.

The second half was a different ball game altogether, Pirates came out all guns blazing in search of an opener and probably the winner.

Ajax looked happy to soak the pressure and try to hit the Bucs on the counter attack.

With 10 minutes gone into the second half, Myeni made a brilliant run towards the box then sold a dummy to Matthew Booth before firing home to give Pirates the lead.

Myeni nearly increased the lead for Pirates as his pace proved too much for the Ajax defence but the nimble-footed winger watched in agony as his shot was tipped out for a corner by Westerveld in the 60th minute.

Matthew Booth was lucky not to be sent off in the 79th minute after he hacked down Thabo Matlaba, the referee was lenient and gave the towering defender a yellow card.

Second half substitute Takesure Chinyama sealed the game for Pirates in regulation time, when he turned well in front of a ball watching Ajax defence before superbly drilling the ball home for Pirates' second goal.
