Pirates new kit unveiled

Cape Town - adidas South Africa has unveiled the new official Orlando Pirates Football Club home and away kits for the upcoming 2014/15 season, and there’s no green in sight!

Last season the Club went back to black in keeping with tradition. The 2014/15 home kit remains black, with the away kit being red – the fans’ favourite. Along with the player names and numbers, the adidas 3 stripes feature on both the shoulders and shorts in white.

Both the home and away jersey designs include a white collar, which returns after being last seen in 2011 with the 75th anniversary jersey edition, a jersey of great significance in the Club’s history as it was worn in the first of back-to-back trebles.

“We are very excited for this season’s Orlando Pirates kit,” commented Gugu Ntuli, PR Manager at adidas South Africa. “Our strong relationship with this legendary Club has allowed for our designers to create something special for our players and their fans,” added Ntuli.

The 2014/15 home and away kit includes a band/bridge across the back of the neck, a design feature on all the football garments as used by the large adidas sponsored European teams.

An unofficial green home jersey was “leaked” a few days ago, causing a social media frenzy. adidas developed this pre-campaign teaser to drive the #allinPirates fans to their 3 stripes CRM platform. For every 10th sign-up, a brazuca ball was donated to an underprivileged school in Soweto.

Tokoloho Moeketsi, Brand Activation Manager at Orlando Pirates Football Club, added: “We worked closely with adidas to create this fun teaser, where our players genuinely thought they would be playing in a green home jersey for this season. It was all for a good cause in the end and our players appreciated their new black kit even more.”

The new home and away kit is now available at adidas Performance stores and many sports retailers countrywide at the recommended retail price of R699.  See the official mantra of this season’s kit here: http://youtu.be/Le98kncp0QM

Orlando Pirates will play in the jersey for the first time during the Carling Black Label Cup at the FNB Stadium on July 26, 2014.
