Pirates' lean run continues

2009-11-04 23:03

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates’ winless streak in the Absa Premiership stretched to seven matches on Wednesday evening when they could only draw 1-1 with Maritzburg United at the Orlando Stadium.

Defender Lucky Lekgwathi put the Buccaneers ahead just before half time but Team of Choice defender Mor Diouf equalised in the 54th minute to ensure his side took home a share of the spoils, despite ending the game with ten men after Bageta Dikilu was sent off.

Pirates dominated possession but Maritzburg were certainly keen to give their hosts a game and Noah Chivuta almost opened the scoring with a long range effort on 36 minutes that forced Moeneeb Josephs into an excellent save.

In injury time at the end of the first half Lekgwathi scored from close range after a good corner kick from Dennis Masina, sending the home team into the break with a 1-0 lead.

But their advantage was short lived, as Collen Zimba’s free kick was turned home by Diouf. Pirates’ defence, which had been their strength early in the season, once again let them down.

The Buccaneers pushed hard for a winner in the latter stages but the visitors’ defence had an answer for every question they were asked, even when Dikilu was sent off for a second bookable offence late on.

Pirates are in sixth place on 21 points, six adrift of leaders SuperSport United. Maritzburg lie in 11th place on 16 points.

Orlando Pirates (1) 1 (Lekgwathi 45’)

I THINK KROL IS RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS AND THAT WILL COST US THE TOP EIGHT PLACE.HOW ON EARTH CAN HE ADMITS THAT TEKO IS TIRED BUT HE KEEPS ON FIELDING HIM.WHY DID HE TOOK OF THE ENERGETIC MONGALE AND MASINA.WHEN IS HE GOING TO REST MASHEGO AND TEKO?WHEN OUR WE GOING TO SEE THE LIKES OF KAMWENDO,MOTHIBANTWA,SCALKWYK,MONGALE AND MAKHANYA .FOREIGN COACHES ARE NOT SO GOOD FOR OUR FOOTBALL,MOST OF THEM GOT NO PLAN B.THE NEAREST EXAMPLE IS OUR BAFANA COACH.

We will Turn the corner and win the League and the aditor must get his/her facts right Dikilu was sent off at injury time hardly a minute before the match ended and Maritzburg players are dirty players their intention was to kick the players and not the ball i also hate the delays they did but mdluli must pull up his socks..... once and always we will win this league..

this is total bull, how do go about six games without a win and still field the same team that doesn't collect maximum points.Modise, Mabalane, must be rested i don't even want to talk about Mashego, Shaka zulu and Fanteni.Mdluli aka Gumbi is worse

Indeed Krol is very much like Santana. He is not willing to change his favourite players despite their underperformance. I am for South African coaches. Give the squad to the Assistant, Roslee and Bucs will be crowned the league champs

Pirates is going down to first division at end of this season. Most overrated team in the world, just like Liverpool.Plenty supporters but no cup to show, they'll always tell you about the Champs league they won AGES AGO!! But they have been the laughing stock for the last 10 years.USELSS TEAM,PLENTY PROMISES BUT NO DELIVERY.

The coach must try the combination of mdluli and Mothibantwa in the middle as benson injured. Why did they put Mudledle on the market whereas there is nobody to fill his gap? I dont think Krol is sharing the ideas with Craig. He is our next Papic with no medals and just shinning. He is not using Chinne;Fantein, and he forced Walaza to go.

I thought the reason Pirates was after the signature of Phenyo Mongala beginning of the season was to give them an option of a naturally left footed winger... If thats the case has he suffered an injury we dont know about or has he fallen out of favour with the coach coz the two times i saw him in the pre-season in the infamous black and white he was impressive and cant really do any worse than the current starters can he?
