Pirates gear up for Carling Cup

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates have intensified their preseason training ahead of their Carling Black Label Cup match against Kaizer Chiefs.

According to the club's website, the Buccaneers welcomed National First Division outfit Baroka FC at Rand Stadium on Tuesday for a practice match, in which head coach Vladimir Vermezovic further assessed all players on trials.

The Soweto Giants defeated the visitor’s 2-1.

Baroka went on the lead in the second half of that match, but the Buccaneers cancelled the visitors’ lead through a penalty kick converted by midfielder Jacky Motshegwa.

The team’s second goal came from an individual brilliance by livewire Joseph Molangoane, who guaranteed the team’s victory.

Meanwhile, forward Helder Pelembe and goalkeeper Fatau Dauda missed yesterday’s session due to their international commitments with their respective national teams.

Dauda, who is currently in Ghana, is expected to arrive in South Africa on Friday, while Pelembe who is on a mission with the Mozambican national team, is expected to join the team after the Mambas’ match against Tanzania on Sunday.

The Carling Black Label Cup match against Kaizer Chiefs takes place on 26 July 2014.
