Pirates, United earn PSL praise

Cape Town - The Premier Soccer League's acting CEO, Cambridge Mokanyane, has heaped praise on Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United for their impressive form in Africa this season.

Pirates took a huge step towards the CAF Champions League group stages with a 3-1 first-leg victory over TP Mazembe on Saturday, while SuperSport held Egyptian side ENPPI to a goalless draw at the same juncture in the Confederations Cup on Friday.

“The results by both clubs Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United is good news for our country. I’m very happy to see that we have turned things around when playing clubs from the continent. As one of the major leagues in the African continent, it is important for the Premier Soccer League to also show their dominance on the field," Mokanyane said on the PSL's website.

“We are fully behind SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates. Their success is also our success. I urge all South Africans to stand behind the two clubs.”

The clubs will this week shift their focus back to the local PSL, with fifth-placed Matsatsantsa hosting Martizburg United on Tuesday night, while third-placed Pirates travel to Wits on Saturday.
