Cape Town - The Absa Premiership fixture between SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates was abandoned by the referee due to insufficient lighting at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
The match was abandoned on the 62nd minute with United leading 1-0.
According to Rule 5.7, remaining minutes of the fixture will be resumed.
The match had started on a steady note for both teams, but Michael Boxall
shifted up a gear when he almost put his name on the score-sheet with a 17th
minute effort that forced a parried save from Brighton Mhlongo following a
corner kick from David Mathebula.
Three minutes later Boxall did not need a second invitation as he struck a ball coming in from Mathebula free-kick past a helpless Mhlongo, and into the back of the net to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
Pirates stepped on the gas with the clock running down in search of the equalizer, but no real threat was posed on goal and the teams headed into the break with Matsatsantsa leading 1-0.
The Buccaneers made their intentions clear as Thabo Rakhale had a shot from range comfortably saved by Ronwen Williams early in the second stanza.
Eric Tinkler's charges continued to push forward looking for that vital equaliser but their momentum was disturbed when the lights went off due to a technical issue.
The fixture will now be played on Wednesday, August 12:00.
