Pienaar gets behind Ajax CT

Johannesburg - Steven Pienaar has offered his best wishes to Ajax Cape Town as his former club go in search of Premier Soccer League glory on Saturday afternoon.

The Urban Warriors need to beat Maritzburg United at the Cape Town Stadium to be crowned Absa Premiership champions - a feat that would bring the trophy to the Cape for the first time in a decade.

Pienaar was on Ajax Cape Town's books from 1999 to 2001 before going on to play for Ajax Amsterdam, Borussia Dortmund, Everton and now Tottenham Hotspur - becoming one of Europe's most highly-rated midfielders along the way.

The 29-year-old still has affection for the club where he grew up and has sent a personal message of support ahead of their crunch clash this weekend.

Pienaar told the Ikamva-based club's official website: "All the best to my old South African team, Ajax Cape Town ahead of the weekend when they play their last game to win the PSL championship in South Africa.

"It would be the first time ever for them to win it! I remember winning the first silverware for the club, the Rothmans Cup in 2000 with Ajax Cape Town. I am behind you all the way!"

Soccer in Cape Town has never come this close to claiming the honours. Lets hope that we can wake up on Sunday to calling iKapa the home of the soccer champs!

Just where is Ikamva where they are supposed to be situated? I thought they are from Parow on Cape Town.

      Billie - 2011-05-20 14:31

Are referring to this 'Ikamva-based club's official website'? Yes you got it right, Parow CT? however, i don't see where does your question fit here! Anyways Good Luck to Urban warriors we're behind them 110%

Billie - this is the right place to raise my question (where else) as a proud Ajax supporter, I have never referred to their base as Ikamva. You obviously only read the comments and not the actual news piece as it states that in it.

They must ask Pirates how the cup slip under their nose when it was within grasp. Ajax will have to sweat before their can lay claim to the cup. They, like Pirates, will be playing against 11 other men on Saturday and insofar as I can recall, Maritzburg are not push-overs as Pienaar and other want to believe. It will be interesting to see if they have recovered from heavy drapping they received not so long ago. I am routing Pirates all the way. Up the Bucs!!
