Johannesburg - Steven Pienaar has offered his best wishes to Ajax Cape Town as his former club go in search of Premier Soccer League glory on Saturday afternoon.

The Urban Warriors need to beat Maritzburg United at the Cape Town Stadium to be crowned Absa Premiership champions - a feat that would bring the trophy to the Cape for the first time in a decade.

Pienaar was on Ajax Cape Town's books from 1999 to 2001 before going on to play for Ajax Amsterdam, Borussia Dortmund, Everton and now Tottenham Hotspur - becoming one of Europe's most highly-rated midfielders along the way.

The 29-year-old still has affection for the club where he grew up and has sent a personal message of support ahead of their crunch clash this weekend.

Pienaar told the Ikamva-based club's official website: "All the best to my old South African team, Ajax Cape Town ahead of the weekend when they play their last game to win the PSL championship in South Africa.

"It would be the first time ever for them to win it! I remember winning the first silverware for the club, the Rothmans Cup in 2000 with Ajax Cape Town. I am behind you all the way!"
