Phungwayo’s contract is expected to expire at the end of the current season, which has fuelled speculation he would part ways with the club next term.
However, Phungwayo insists that his future is squarely in the hands of club chairman Irvin Khoza.
"At the moment, everything is in the hands of the chairman [Irvin Khoza]. He should decide my future at Pirates," Phungwayo told KickOff on Monday.
Phungwayo, who has actually featured prominently for Pirates this season, said that there had been no official contact from the clubs which were reported to have an interest in him, adding that there was definitely no clarity on his future at this juncture.
"I am only reading in newspapers about the interest from the other PSL teams and there has not been any official contact," added Phungwayo.
