Phalane hails Macufe Cup win

Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic midfield enforcer Lantshene Phalane says Siwelele unquestionably deserved the Macufe Cup victory over Kaizer Chiefs.

A spirited Celtic overcame Chiefs 1-0 thanks to a second-half strike from youngster Tshegofatso Mabaso at the Free State Stadium on Sunday.

It was Phalane who won the man-of-the-match award, however, after containing the opposition attack in midfield.

"It was a tough game where we had to go all out," Phalane said after the game.

"Playing against Chiefs is never easy. We tried to have fun and pulled it off.

"Congratulations to my team-mates. We wanted to do this for the fans and the people of Bloemfontein

"It was not just any game. We managed to keep the title and remain champions against the biggest club in the league.

"Many of us we are not getting game-time, so it was a chance to prove ourselves, to show that we can also do the job in the starting line-up."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
