Polokwane- Ahead of their Telkom Knock-Out clash against Orlando Pirates on Sunday, Polokwane City spokesperson Costa De Cello confirmed that their newly recruited coach, Kostadin Papic, will be on the bench for the first time, on Sunday, since his appointment last month.
The Serbian international coach joined Rise and Shine following his controversial departure from the newly, ABSA Premiership, promoted side Chippa United having joined them in July.
Papic has been watching his charges from the stands with the spectators while waiting for his work permit to be issued.
“Bill Clinton”’s first task will be against his former side, Pirates, in the last 16 of the Telkom Knock-Out at the Orlando stadium.
“Yes I can confirm that Kostadin Papic will be on the bench on Sunday when we face Pirates.” Said De Cello
“We have been patiently waiting as a team to have him on the bench.
“His work permit was finalised this week and he is now fully in charge of the team.”
Papic’s presence on the side lines will be a major boost to the Limpopo based side but the big blow, however, will be the absence of the veteran defender Benson Mhlongo.
“Mayanga” is out nursing a hamstring injury and will leave a big void in defence for his team-mates.
“Unfortunately Benson Mhlongo will not feature on Sunday.” Confirmed De Cello
“Benson (Mhlongo) is suffering from a hamstring injury and we are still not sure how long he’ll be out of action.”
Pirates will be looking to continue with their dominance over City.
The two teams last met in a league game in Polokwane on 30 August where the Buccaneers triumphed 3-0 thanks to Kermit Erasmus, Thabo Qalinge and Lehlohonolo Majoro strikes.
Kick-off is at 15:30
