PSL trophy attracts praise

Johannesburg - The new Premier Soccer League trophy has received universal acclaim from the coaches vying to get their hands on the silverware.

The cup, which is made of sterling silver, weighs 7kg and looks a lot like the UEFA Champions League trophy, was unveiled on Monday night.

SuperSport United are gunning for a fourth consecutive title under the astute management of Gavin Hunt, who took an immediate fancy to the new trophy.

"We all want to win the league, and that trophy just gives it more appeal. It's a stunner and definitely something that will fit in our cabinet," Hunt told the PSL's website.

"It's stunning, simple yet classic. I am sure everyone here likes it and wants it. The fans and players will be impressed," added Santos boss Boebie Solomons.

Ruud Krol, meanwhile, says the silverware will motivate his Orlando Pirates charges.

"Of course like all the other teams in the league we are definitely going to challenge for the new trophy," Krol told the club's website.

"It's very elegant and should be an inspiration to the players to lay their hands on it. Of course it will also be very nice to be the first coach to win the new league cup," he added.
